Death is part of life. Why is it so difficult to talk about?

For many of us, death is one of the most important subjects we almost never discuss.

Death Café offers something remarkably simple:

A place to talk about it.

What is a Death Café?

Death Café is part of an international movement encouraging open conversation about death and dying.

A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes.

It is not grief counseling, therapy, or a bereavement support group.

It is simply an opportunity for people to gather, share something to eat or drink, and talk openly about mortality in a welcoming environment.

Death Café Petaluma

I facilitate Death Café gatherings locally in Petaluma.

People come for many different reasons. Some have experienced loss. Some work around death and dying. Some are thinking about their own mortality. Some are simply curious.

You do not need to have experienced a recent death to attend. You do not need to know what you want to say. And you are never required to speak.
